The university’s sportsmen-rowers participated in a Cup of Ukraine in canoe rowing, which was organized in commemoration of Olympic champion Yulia Riabchynska in Dnipropetrovsk.
400 sportsmen participated in the competitions, among them: 224 adults, 176 juniors. 24 teams represented 22 regions of Ukraine. The competitions were representative: 2 Honored Masters of Sports, 32 Masters of Sports of International level, 132 Masters of Sports of Ukraine, 159 Candidates in Master of Sports.
The mixed team of Cherkassy region consisted of pupils of Uman Child Junior Sports School №1, representatives of Cherkassy regional organization “Dynamo”. Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University represented students of Physical Training Department: Natalia Melnyk, Bohdan Scherbak, Nazar Scherbak, Oleksandr Haran’, Yulia Yuriychuk, Vladyslav Mehes, Yaroslav Fryiuk, Vladyslav Karnaukh, Mykola Chaploutskiy.
Yulia Yuriychuk has won a golden medal and a Small Cup of Olympic Champion Yulia Riabchynska in one-oar canoe on distance of 500 meters. Also Yulia has become a silver prize-winner on the distance of 200 meters in one-oar canoe and 500 meters in two-oar canoe.
Juniors Vladyslav Mehes, Yaroslav Fryiuk have got “gold” on the distance of 1000 meters in four-oar canoe.
On the distance of 1000 meters Vladyslav Mehes has received a golden medal (in Cup of Ukraine) in the competition of one-oar canoe.
A golden medal has won Natalia Melnyck on the distance of 1000 meters.
“Bronze” has won Oleksandr Haran on the distance of 1000 meters in the competition of one-oar canoe.
As a result, Cherkassy region team took the eighth place among 24 teams of Ukraine.
Such performance testifies that Uman School of Rowing has had a success. It’s done owing the following trainers: Oleksandr Ischenko, Oleksandr Rozhanskiy, Tetiana Ivasenko, Vladyslav Hriaznov.

Yulia Petrivna Riabchynska (Babak) (born – 1947, village Pishchanka, Vinnytsia region; died – 1973, Poti, Georgia) – honorary master of sports of USSR (1972).
She graduated from Vinnytsia medical college (1969). She was a champion of the world (1971) in four-oar canoe rowing, XX Champion (1972) of Olympic Games in one-oar canoe rowing, 2 times Champion of USSR (1971), Silver Prize-Winner (1971-1972). Since 1973 International Competitions in canoe rowing in commemoration of Riabchynska are being held.
She was in “Locomotive” team (Odessa); rewarded by order “Mark of Honour” (1972). Trainers: A. Ivanov, H. Diachenko
She has tragically died in educational and trainers meeting in Poti, Georgia.
