The teachers and the scientists of the Nature and Geography Department carry out a number of applied researches related to the evaluation of the genetic consequences of anthropogenic pollution on the territory of Ukraine. Among the places of interest the 30-km alienation zone of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station was in the special focus of the scientists. Under the guidance of Ruslan Yakymchuk, the Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor, and support of Igor Chyzhevsky, the Candidate of Biological Sciences, the research scientist of the “Chernobylskiy Spatskombinat”special-purpose state enterprise the students have been studying the risks of genetic changes of life forms that had experienced the harmful influence of artificial radio nuclides on the example of autumn wheat for many years.
