This year Uman celebrates the 400th anniversary of the first written mention of the city.

The program of City Day celebration, which usually occurred in the first Saturday of October, this year has been significantly enhanced. Representatives of our university were the participants of the celebrations.

Our university column was headed by the Rector - Doctor of Sciences in Pedagogics, Professor, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine Oleksandr Bezliudnyi, Head of the university Trade Union Committee Ph.D.in Pedagogics, Associate Professor Valentyn Hytruk, Head of the Student Council Eugeniya Boroday, фssistant rector, Ph.D.in Pedagogics, Professor, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine Dmytro Baldynyuk, Vice-Rector, Professor, Doctor of Sciences in Pedagogics Andriy Gedzyk, Vice-rector for Scientific Work and International Cooperation, Ph.D.in History, Associate Professor Vladylena Sokyrska, Vice-rector for Economic Issues Stanislav Markov.

Flag of the University had been carried by Doctor of Sciences in Pedagogics Sergiy Yashchuk (assistants - students of Natural Science Department Vladyslava and Ruslana Kytrar) and emblem by students of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science Department Dmytro Zubrytskyi and Oleksandr Kulyk. It should be noted that the leaders o the holiday were students of the University Anastasiya Shkurenko (Foreign Languages Department), Leonila Kravets (Institute of Economics and Business Education) and lecturer of Theory of Primery Education Chair Oleksandr Shcherbakov.

The History department headed by the dean, Professor Anatoliy Karasevych was at the beginning of the column. All arms of Uman, which the city had over four centuries had been also presented. The column ended with a poster with an extract from historical documents about the first mention of Uman.

During the celebrations on the central stage, the famous people of the city were presented with awards. For considerable merit in the establishment of an independent Ukraine, affirming its sovereignty and strengthening the international authority, significant contribution to nation-building, socio-economic, cultural and educational development, active social and political activities an Associate Professor of History of Ukraine Chair of Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University, Ph.D.in History Bogdan Chornomaz was awarded by the President of Ukraine - commemorative medal "25 years of Independence of Ukraine".

The University had been brightly presented at the exhibition of city achievements "For You, dear Uman", which was deployed in the central square. It was visited by numerous guests, including foreign ones. City Mayor Oleksandr Tsebriy highly evaluated the exhibition of our university, and thanked the departments representatives, rector Oleksandr Bezliydnyi for interesting and bright, deep and meaningful presentation.

The audience enthusiastically were watching the master classes of representatives of Professional and Technological Education Department which had conducted "Dolls" - master Vita Martsenyuk, woodcarving - lecturer Vitaliy Potapkin, "Bead Weaving" - student Aliona Plakhotnyuk, "Metal and Plastics"- assistant Sergiy Ivanov. Lecturer of Special Education Chair of Preschool and Special Education Department Taisiya Dychok conducted for children a workshop entitled "Therapy by Colored Salt", and Ph.D.in Pedagogics, Associate Professor of Ukrainian Philology Chair Natalia Mamchur gathered all the fans of embroidery.

The lecturers of Fine Arts Chair of Arts Department conducted a series of workshops with paintings, pottery and others. Instrumental trio «Serbian star» presented its music.

Dance groups of Arts Department: people's amateur ensemble of modern dance "Vizavi" (director - Lyudmila Androshchuk) and people's amateur folk dance team "Yavoryna" (director - Sergiy Kutsenko) presented flash mob "I love Uman" and a dance marathon "For You, dear Uman!"

Four teams of the University (form the History Department, Foreign Languages Department, Ukrainian Philology Department, Social and Psychological Education Department) took part in a youth-historical quest. The director of Aeronautic Society "Mongolfyer" Sergiy Skalko assured that the winners of historical quest would have an opportunity to fly by a balloon for free and see the panorama of a native city from a height of about a thousand meters. That right was won by the team of History Department.

Holiday gave a lot of positive emotions and a boost of energy for the future. We love Uman!
